Melrose Place
Making Melrose CU A Better Place

We invite all members to send us your service experiences at Melrose Credit Union.

Mr. Kaufman:

Just a brief note to, once again, commend your Member Service Representative Ms. Debbie Flamos for her consistent efficiency, attentiveness and professionalism.

It’s rare that I need to avail myself of the Member Services team, but when I have had to do so, Ms. Flamos has invariably imparted to me a sense that Melrose members and their business is indeed a priority to her.

I certainly hope Melrose recognizes what a skilled, and indeed valuable, asset that it has in the form of Ms. Flamos. If only we could figure out a way to clone her! Joking aside, please do extend my sincerest appreciation to Ms. Flamos for the unparalleled and excellent service she consistently provides.

Thank you for your time.

Please note that letters may be edited or summarized.

Join The Melrose/MBS Team And Help Create A World With No Breast Cancer And

Once again, Melrose Credit Union has committed to a Flagship Sponsorship of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. As anyone who has participated in the past can tell you, this is a powerful and inspiring event that honors those who have battled breast cancer, spreads the word about what we can do to prevent breast cancer, and raises money to find cures and support programs and services for those facing the disease.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer will take place on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Why should you walk? Well, for one thing, there are 2.5 million breast cancer survivors who celebrated another birthday last year because people like you signed up to walk or donate to
Making Strides.

We’ll be selling Melrose/MBS tote bags, Making Strides bracelets, building a Wall of Hope in the Credit Union’s lobby with the names of all our supporters and raising money with our very first Melrose/MBS Bake Sale. Any other ideas of how we can save lives and create more birthdays are welcome!

To join our team or to make a donation, please click here. Through the Making Strides website you will be able to send emails to friends and family asking them to join you on October 21, or to support you by making a donation. It’s easy to do. Just ask if you need help.

Storms Are The New Norm Be Sure Your Assests Are Protected!

According to CNN, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has revised its predictions for this year’s Atlantic hurricane season.

The agency now predicts between 12 and 17 named storms from the period that started on June 1 and will end on November 30. NOAA’s original May prediction was between nine and 15 named storms. -CNN

As the lead hurricane season forecaster at the NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center has noted, the likelihood of an above-normal hurricane season has risen 35%. There is now a 50/50 chance of a “near-normal” season, according to this forecaster, whose name is Gerry Bell.

The NOAA estimates that anywhere from five to eight of these named storms will in fact turn into hurricanes, with two or three of those that do become hurricanes advancing into “major” storms. A major storm is one that reaches a Category 3 storm or greater. Category 3 storms are those with winds of at least 111 mph.

"People should be ready now," Furgione admitted.

“We are increasing the likelihood of an above-normal season because storm-conducive wind patterns and warmerthan- normal sea surface temperatures are now in place in the Atlantic,” said Bell. “These conditions are linked to the ongoing high activity era for Atlantic hurricanes that began in 1995. Also, strong early-season activity is generally indicative of a more active season.”

The 2012 Hurricane Season Is In Full Swing!

So far, the 2012 hurricane season has thirteen named storms: Alberto, Beryl, Chris, Debbie, Ernesto, Florence, Gordon, Helene, Isaac, Joyce, Kirk, Leslie and Michael. Of these 13 storms, Chris, Ernesto, Issac and Michael became hurricanes.

For the first time since 1908, three named storms formed before the start of hurricane season on June 1. While according to Bell, additional weather factors indicate that this will not be an above-average storm season, Laura Furgione, acting director of NOAA’s National Weather Service, has said that it is best to be prepared for the worst.

Hurricane season is here – do you have the insurance you need to protect your home and your family? The MBS Financial Planning Seminar Series can help you answer all your insurance questions and help you be sure your home is protected to the fullest in the event of an emergency.
