New EMV Chip Mastercard® Debit Cards
Your Mastercard® EMV Chip Debit Card now provides the technology to add another layer of security to the fight against debit card fraud. When your current card expires, it is automatically replaced with the new EMV chip-enabled debit card. Instructions for activation and use will be included when your new card arrives in the mail. If you would like a new card before your current card expires, stop by the branch and complete a request form. There is an associated $10 fee to do so.

Despite the rise in mobile banking usage, check fraud continues to rise – reaching over $13 billion! Technology makes it easier to be defrauded. Fiserv reports that fraudsters use lost or stolen checks, cancelled checks found in your garbage, or a check you’ve placed in your mailbox to pay a bill. Take these preventive steps:
Store blank checks, statements and canceled checks in a secure place.
Track check orders and notify Melrose if your order doesn’t show up in a timely manner.
Report missing checks to us immediately.
Shred old canceled checks, bank account statements and ATM receipts.
Check your mailbox regularly and consider using a post office box if you can’t.
If you buy/sell through auction websites like Craigslist, use a reliable service like PayPal to exchange funds.

Revive Dormant Accounts
Save money when you reactivate a dormant account. Make a single transaction such as a deposit or withdrawal, or better yet, set up direct deposit to the account and you won’t need to think about it again. You can also send us a signed letter requesting to keep
your accounts active. These actions will halt the $5.00 per month dormancy fee and prevent future charges if these transactions are performed at least once a year. Stop by the branch or call (718) 658-9800 with questions.
